Conference Information:

The World Health Organization (WHO), the American National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP), and the Adult Treatment Panel (ATP III), have now defined the metabolic syndrome as a clinical entity. This definition allows the medical community the ability to identify patients who are at increased risk of developing both cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Metabolic syndrome now affects approximately 55 million people in the United States. Given the insidious onset of metabolic syndrome, early identification and intervention are critical for reducing the rising mortality rates associated with metabolic syndrome.

The WHO recognizes that self management of chronic illnesses should be an integral part of primary care, be patient centered, incorporate goal setting and decision-making, include problem solving, and have a systematic follow up. Implementation of these strategies by clinicians will be to support coordination of care, clinical decision-making, utilize evidenced-based practice, quality improvement, and patient and family involvement.

This program is designed for primary care nurses, nurse practitioners, and learners will gain an understanding of the metabolic syndrome, the complications associated with this, and assist their patient’s in their ability to manage their chronic disease.

Highlights of the this conference include:
  • A comprehensive approach to management of metabolic syndrome including clinical, behavioral, psychosocial and public health interventions.
  • An interactive format including case discussions, and audience-response activities to help you develop personalized treatment plans for your patients.
  • The opportunity to network with clinicians from around the world as you share challenges and victories in working with this special population.
  • Plan now to join your colleagues and this esteemed faculty for what will be a unique and engaging learning experience, where you will walk away with a number of tools and strategies for improving your effectiveness with your patients. See you there!
